From Santiago I started driving south, expecting to take Ruta Austral in Chile all the way south and crossing to Argentina there. On that route, some 200km south of Santiago, 80km east of Curico lies Potrero Grande in a nice valley at the end of the road there are the Cascada Las Buitreras.
On the campsite there were very lovely dogs that wanted to be petted.
I asked the lovely landlady of the campsite about if there are any other nice hikes in the area except to the waterfall and she said I could walk a lot beyond it but I did not realize that she just meant the boring dusty road through the valley.

Some gauchos herd their cattle into down the valley.

A family that also drove to the cascadas was so nice to give me a ride in the back of their pickup.

The next day I walked to the waterfall from the campsite but the road was very boring to hike on so I was very happy when a nice family who were also heading to the waterfall in their pickup let me hitch a ride on their flatbed.
Las Cascadas

Making dinner back at the campsite.

Dinner; The burger was as delicious as it looks.

At the store they had tortillas shaped like little half-shells wich are awesome for loading them with sauce.

An interesting nut. Not unsimilar to an acorn but it smelled really nice.

The tree branch with the nuts on it.
